A lot of a dog’s intelligence comes from genetics, but a lot of it also comes from their upbringing and how their owners teach and treat them from an early age. If you start teaching your dog tricks and obedience from a puppy, they will learn more and at a much quicker pace throughout their life.

But intelligence doesn’t just come from being able to navigate a Cruft’s agility course or being able to balance a biscuit on their nose – intelligence also comes from the way the dog reacts to their environment, strange noises, new sights and their general behaviour.
