Gina Carano Disney: Why Was the Star Dropped From The Mandalorian?

A few years ago, Gina Carano was flying high. She’d scored a part in the smash-hit Star Wars spin off The Mandalorian, and her career as a Hollywood actress was well and truly taking off.
But just as it seemed like the star had it made, she was quickly dropped by Disney after she made some pretty choice comments on social media. And it wasn’t the first time she’d been in trouble for her remarks…
So what happened exactly?
Gina Carano Disney
Gina Carano’s Disney career was fairly short-lived.
The star, who played Cara Dune in the series, ended up in hot water after some seriously controversial comments online. She likened being a Republican today to being Jewish during the Holocaust- which was met with severe backlash.
The actress declared:
“Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbours…. even by children.
“Because history is edited, most people today don´t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbours hate them simply for being Jews.
“How is that any different from hating someone for their political views?”.

Gina later deleted the post, but screenshots of her remarks spread on social media like wildfire. Many users called for the actress to be sacked from her role in The Mandalorian, and the hashtag “#FireGinaCarano” went viral.
This was the latest in a LONG history of problematic tweets from the star. She’d previously mocked people for wearing masks during the pandemic, and suggested that voter fraud had occurred during the 2020 presidential election.
Gina Carano was also accused of transphobia after changing her Twitter name to include ‘Beep/Bop/Boop’.
In the now deleted tweet, she wrote:
“They mad cuz I won’t put pronouns in bio to show my support for trans lives.
After months of harassing me in every way, I chose to put three VERY controversial words in my bio, BEEP/BOP/BOOP”.
Fallout
After coming under increasing pressure, Disney and Lucasfilm decided to act.
In a statement from Lucasfilm, a spokesperson said:
“Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future.
Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

But Gina Carano continued to dig her heels in. Rather than accepting her sacking, she’s taken every opportunity to speak out against Lucasfilm and Disney.
In an interview on The Ben Shapiro Show, the actress said:
“I’m going to go down fighting…
They [Lucasfilm and Disney] have been all over me…and I’m watching people on the same production and they can say everything they want, and that’s where I had a problem. I had a problem because I wasn’t going along with the narrative.”
Career Moves
Before she was sacked from Disney, Gina Carano was forging herself an impressive career.
The actress originally started out as an MMA fighter. She was contracted to UFC before making the move to film and TV, and landed a role in 2005 cult film Ring Girls.
