The former Coronation Street actress – who played Michelle Connor on the ITV soap – has admitted acting alongside Simon (Steve McDonald) could be “so tough” at times, because it was difficult to be serious during takes when the pair got the giggles.
She said:
‘Simon and I worked closely together for many years and he’s just got funny bones. He’s such a laugh to be around.
‘I loved working with him but I also hated it a bit, too, because it was so tough to remain serious.
‘My character Michelle was often the serious one in a scene and sometimes Simon would just look at me and I could tell he was trying not to laugh’.

Kym recalled one particular scene where Michelle – whose two brothers Paul (Sean Gallagher) and Liam Connor (Rob James-Collier) were both killed a year apart – was being consoled by Steve at the funeral of one of her siblings, but she and Simon “couldn’t stop laughing” at one of his lines.
Writing in her OK! magazine column, she added:
‘Steve was consoling Michelle after her brother’s funeral and he leaned in for a kiss.
‘Michelle pulled away and asked him what he was doing, and Steve’s line was something like, “Everyone gets randy at funerals.”
‘It just made me crack up and we couldn’t stop laughing. We had to do the take over and over.
‘I miss working with Simon so much’.
