Astronomer Royal

Curious about the heavens, King Charles II introduced the first Royal Astrologer position with John Flamsteed filling it in 1675. To this day, this position is still held but has been expanded into two positions, one since 1675, and the other since 1834. The current Astronomer Royal is Martin Rees. And although it’s more of a ceremonial figure nowadays, Rees still studies astronomy and advises the Queen on various astronomical issues.
