The Disappearance of Jennifer Dulos

Back in 2019, Jennifer Dulos disappeared. She had just dropped off her children at a local school in Connecticut, but she was never seen again.

While her former husband was later charged for her murder, he long maintained his innocence before his eventually suicide.

Here’s everything we know about the continuing investigation.

Jennifer Dulos went missing on the 2nd May 2019. While she’s never actually been found, authorities suspect that she was killed in a violent attack in her own home.

Jennifer was going through a messy divorce at the time of her disappearance, and her former husband Fotis Dulos had been making life difficult for her. She moved away from her family home with their five children, and decided to be a stay at home mum and blog writer.

Jennifer’s blog posts gave an insight into her marriage troubles, and she spoke openly about how her former husband would react after she filed for divorce.

“I know that filing for divorce, and filing this motion will enrage him. I know he will retaliate by trying to harm me in some way.”

Jennifer also stated that she believed he was having an affair with one of his colleagues, Michelle Troconis. She also claimed that Fotis had threatened to kidnap their children if she did not agree to his terms in the divorce settlement, and that he had bought a gun that year.

However, Fotis Dulos later denied the allegations made by Jennifer.

He was later charged for the murder of his former wife.

After Jennifer Dulos disappeared, police found blood spatters in her garage and kitchen. She is therefore presumed dead based on the evidence of serious assault.

Police searches focused on central Connecticut, as well as a portion of Hartford’s North End nearby. Jennifer’s family were also heavily involved in the searches.

Just eight days after Jennifer was reported missing, Fotis and his girlfriend Michelle Troconis were arrested for tampering with evidence.

Police investigators spotted the pair on surveillance video stopping at trash cans across Hartford’s North End while police were still looking for evidence.

Some of the bags discarded by Fotis included kitchen sponges and clothes containing Jennifer’s blood and DNA.

Evidence quickly began building against Fotis. Jennifer’s blog posts were used against him, as was the forensic evidence.

Police believed that he lay in wait at Jennifer’s home for her, and then attacked her.

In January 2020, Fotis Dulos was arrested her his former wife’s murder. Michelle Troconis was charged with conspiracy to murder, as was Fotis’ former attorney Kent Mawhinney.

He had created a false alibi for Fotis on the morning of her disappearance, and was found to have dug a shallow grave on one of his properties.

Carrie Luft, a spokeswoman for Jennifer Dulos’ family, said in a statement:

“Although we are relieved that the wait for these charges is over, for us there is no sense of closure. Nothing can bring Jennifer back.

We miss her every day and will forever mourn her loss.”

Trials and Suicide

After his arrest, Fotis Dulos continued to deny the charges against him.

He was due to appear in court where he faced the prospect of returning to prison, but he never turned up.

Police rushed to his home, where they found him dead. He had meticulously planned him suicide, and left a detailed note explaining he didn’t kill his former wife.
