Tammy and Amy: Everything We Know About The Slaton Sisters

Tammy and Amy rose to fame as the stars of their own reality show: 1000-lb Sisters. The show began airing in January 2020 and followed the Slaton sisters through the ups and downs of their health concerns and attempts to lose weight.

The show is now in its third season and fans are hooked to the Slaton sisters story.

Whether you’ve seen 1,000-lb Sisters or not, you might be wanting to know more about the sisters. Here, we reveal everything you need to know about Tammy and Amy.

Who are Tammy and Amy?

Tammy and Amy Slaton are the stars of the TLC show 1,000-lb Sisters. Tammy is 35 and Amy is 24, and they are from Dixton, Kentucky.

1,000-lb Sisters started when Tammy and Amy decided to record their weight loss journey and share it with the world. Their show was picked up by TLC and now millions of viewers tune in to hear updates about their lives.

But did you know that Tammy and Amy are originally YouTubers? Amy Slaton started posting videos on the site in 2011, and their channel ended up being a huge hit.

Some of their videos even went viral, like their take on the ‘Chubby bunny challenge’, which now has almost 2.5 million views.

If it wasn’t for their thousands of fans, Tammy and Amy may have stayed as YouTubers. However, they managed to get their TLC show off the back of their successful channel.

The first season of the show followed a similar angle to their YouTube channel – documenting their weight loss and journey towards a healthier lifestyle.

However, the second season took a turn by following younger sister Amy’s new relationship and attempts to get pregnant. She married her partner Michael and the pair went on a long journey that eventually ended in happiness.

In November 2020, Amy and Michael’s son Gage was born via C-section.

How Much Weight Has Amy Lost?

When 1,000-lb Sisters first aired, Tammy weighed 605lbs (274kg) and Amy weighed 406lbs (184kg). Since then, of the two sisters, Amy Slaton has had the better weight loss journey.

By season three, Amy was weighing 288lbs (130kg), however, some of this was achieved with weight loss surgery.

Season one showed how Amy undertook bariatric surgery – more specifically gastric bypass surgery. In order to qualify for the life-changing surgery, Amy had to get in shape, and the show revealed how Amy controlled her diet and started exercising.

Now, though, Amy’s weight loss journey has hit another bump. Since having her son Gage, she has stopped losing weight.

In a checkup with her doctor in an episode from season three, he admits that he’s disappointed with her progress.

Her doctor, Charles Procter Jr, says: “When I first met Amy, over two years ago, she weighed over 400lbs and one of her goals in life, not only to get married, was to have a baby, and at that point it was impossible for her.

From what I’m seeing, she hasn’t put any more effort back into her health. We’ve pretty much stalled out at this point.”

What Has Happened to Tammy?

Sadly, Tammy Slaton has not had the same journey to weight loss as her sister. While Amy was spurred on by wanting to get pregnant and have a child, it didn’t look like Tammy had the same concern for losing weight.

As a result, she’s had a lot more health scares over the last few years, all of which have been documented on 1,000-lb Sisters.

In season two, Tammy entered a rehab facility for food addiction. She also recently went through a tracheostomy procedure to help her get more air into her lungs.

Recently, fans of Tammy and Amy raised alarms when Tammy started posting pictures from a hospital on Instagram.

Some fans have suggested that she may be back in rehab to help her get a handle on her food addition again.

Another recent clip from 1,000-lb Sisters shows Tammy partying and vaping, despite her growing health concerns.

Explaining her recent change in lifestyle, Tammy said: “As a teenager, I wasn’t doing any partying. I was super shy about my weight, and I really didn’t have too many friends. So, like, I stayed in my little bubble. But now I’m to the point where I don’t care.”
