For a brief time, Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds were the hottest couple on the planet.
The actors got together back in 2007, and tied the knot shortly afterwards.
But things weren’t set to last between the pair. They were separated and divorced by 2011.
So what exactly happened?

Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds hooked up on the back of their previous relationships. The Lost in Translation star had split up with then-boyfriend Josh Harnett, while Ryan had recently called off his engagement with Alanis Morrissette.
The budding couple were then spotted canoodling together just two months after their break ups.
During their relationship, the actors were notoriously private, rarely photographed together and opted not to speak about each other much in interviews.
Despite their eight year age difference- Scarlett was 23 and Ryan was 32- they continued their habit of moving quickly by announcing their engagement just a year after they got together.

The couple got married just four months after being engaged. They got hitched at a wilderness retreat in Vancouver, with a small group of family and friends.
But shortly after they got married, the star’s schedules blew up. Ryan was overwhelmed with work offers after his Deadpool success, and Scarlett had just been cast as Black Widow.
And relations between the couple soon started to turn sour…
Divorce
As the couple generally stayed quiet about their relationship, nobody had any idea that Scarlett and Ryan were running into huge problems behind the scenes.
After three years of marriage, the couple separated and filed for divorce.
In their official statement, a spokesperson said:
After long and careful consideration on both our parts, we’ve decided to end our marriage. We entered our relationship with love and it’s with love and kindness we leave it. While privacy isn’t expected, it’s certainly appreciated”.

Predictably, gossip columns went into overdrive to find out what caused their break up. But neither Scarlett nor Ryan revealed the truth.
While the Black Widow star hasn’t ever referred to Ryan by name in interviews, she did give a tiny hint about him during an interview with Vanity Fair.
“I mean, the first time I got married I was 23 years old.
I didn’t really have an understanding of marriage. Maybe I kind of romanticised it, I think, in a way.”
As the years passed by, Scarlett slowly began to open up on the challenges of dating other actors- which many believe was the reason for her split with Ryan.
Chatting with Cosmopolitan, she said:
“The logistics of being with another actor are challenging.
There has to be a real understanding of how you share your time, especially when two people’s careers are going at the same rate. Or even if one person is more successful than the other, that also proves challenging.
There may be a competitive thing.”
Moving On
Their relationship may have fallen apart, but Scarlett and Ryan haven’t let it stop them from finding love again.
Ryan has been loved up with Blake Lively for years now, and the two have three adorable daughters; James, Inez and Betty. And it seems that they run rings around their dad already!
Appearing on the TODAY show, the Safe House star revealed:
“It’s absolute mayhem. You’re just, every day, clinging by the skin of your teeth.”
