Ruth Jones Husband: The crazy love story Ruth and David Peet
We all know Ruth Jones for her iconic role of Nessa in Gavin and Stacey. But who is her low-key husband David Peet?
Ruth Jones husband David Peet:
David Peet has done a lot of work in TV and writing over the years, but is arguably best known for being the husband of Ruth Jones MBE.
David is a 68 year-old Writer, producer, executive producer, manager and creative director.
He has credits as a producer going back to the 90s movie Borderlines, with notable work on shows such as The Great Outdoors, Stella and Gavin and Stacey.
His latest work is on a BBC One Comedy Playhouse pilot Gaynor & Ray, which will star Ruth Jones and Rob Brydon.
It was created by himself and his wife Ruth Jones.
The two work on a lot of projects together, and co-founded Tidy Productions together in 2008.
As for his personal life, David has three children from a previous marriage Fiona, Louise and Alex.
The early days of Ruth Jones and David Peet:
Ruth Jones rarely discusses her love life and its no wonder considering how complicated things began!
Ruth met David in the nineties and fell head over heels for the TV producer.
However, there was a problem…
He was happily married with three teenage children.
The private couple have left fans intrigued as to who they are behind the scenes and how their love story played out.
And Ruth Jones opened up about this when promoting her new novel Never Greener last in 2018.
Facts and fiction:
Ruth did admit that the pair had an affair.
At the time she told the Daily Mail: “Nobody in the book is based on anybody in my life. Of course you have to ask. But my imagination is quite ferocious, in that I can imagine the worst possible scenarios. Affairs cause a lot of pain, they’re not something one aspires to do. You don’t aspire to cause pain to people in their life.”
The book was about an actress who has an affair with a married man, although she was keen to stress that it wasn’t based on her own life.
Her chaotic character, Kate, falls in and out of the life of an older, married teacher, Callum, whom she had an affair with in her 20s.
Kate has returned to her old school as guest of honour, a Bafta winner, and finds Callum… Then another affair begins again, with passionate but potentially disastrous results!
While the story may not be an exact copy of her life, the early stages of her romance with David appear to have been as traumatic as Nessa’s steamy affair with Smithy in Gavin and Stacey.
She said: “The truth is, my husband was married when I met him. So in that sense there was an overlap… I had an affair, in that sense. I can’t believe I’ve just said that to you!”
Affairs and forgiveness:
While it seems Callum’s wife, Belinda, has a lot to forgive him for, what would Ruth Jones do that in real life?
She said: “When we were younger, me and my friends used to go, ‘What would you do if you found out your boyfriend had been cheating?’ And we’d say, ‘Oh, that would be it, over straight away.’ But as you get older, life is more complicated. Particularly if kids are involved. I love that Belinda doesn’t forget, but she does forgive.”
When asked if she could forgive David if he strayed, she said: “Yes, I think so. But would I? It depends on the circumstances, doesn’t it?”
Stepmother:
Ruth also admitted how much she has enjoyed being a stepmother to David’s three children.
She once declared that she’d experienced “all the joy of motherhood without the pain of childbirth”.
Since making it big, Ruth said she rarely worries about the Celeb world, often saying she feels more at home jogging in Cardiff’s park and shopping in her local Tesco.
Fair enough!
It seems Ruth means what she says in not worrying about the superficial stuff, as she opened up about events in life that have put things into perspective.
She told the Daily Mail: “I’m very content with my life – my ambition is just to stay healthy. I lost my dad in July. He was 89. He went suddenly. It was really tough. I miss him terribly. Then one of my best friends died in January. We were at university together. I’ve dedicated this book to her. Things like that change your outlook. Who gives a f*** whether you’re in some big film and stuff? I don’t want to be worrying about work, I’m in a fortunate position. I’ve got another book to write. I just hope for my family to be content and happy, you know? That’s the main thing for me. And I’m very happy.”
