Her husband may be serving life imprisonment, but Rebecca Sneed is continuing to be a loyal wife.
Lyle Menendez and his brother murdered their parents back in 1989, but that didn’t stop Rebecca from getting close to Lyle, who she began writing to while he was in prison.
So what do we know about Rebecca and her strange relationship with Lyle?
Rebecca Sneed
Not much is known about Rebecca, but she first came to public attention when she started a relationship with Lyle Menendez.
She was a magazine editor before she started a career as an attorney, and then she bizarrely fell in love with Lyle after she became his pen pal.
Lyle Menendez was actually married to his first wife Anna at the time of his conviction, but they divorced around five years after he was imprisoned.
Apparently Anna’s reason for the divorce was that her husband was talking to other women while he served his sentence…

After they parted ways, Rebecca saw her chance. She married Lyle at his prison in 2003.
She has continued to visit her husband every weekend for the past fifteen years.
Speaking to People, Lyle Menendez said:
“Our interactions tend to be very free of distractions and we probably have more intimate conversations than most married spouses do, who are distracted by life’s events.”
Conviction
When the news first broke of Lyle and Erik’s murders, their crimes became a national spectacle.
Their parents Jose and Kitty Menendez were sitting watching TV in their Beverly Hills home when they were shot nearly fifteen times by their sons.
Both brothers claimed that they had killed their parents because of the sexual abuse they had received by their father. But when it came to their conviction, the jury decided that their true motivation was to gain money from their wealthy parents.

The brothers splashed out on lavish purchases after their parent’s murders, buying everything from a Rolex and cars to holidays and tennis lessons.
Both Lyle and his younger brother Erik Menendez are serving their sentences at California’s Mule Creek State Prison. Neither of them will ever be paroled.
Lyle has since admitted that he regrets his actions.
“It’s really, a regret every day, a regret every day, but at the same time you really, you know – I can’t escape what happened any more than I can escape the sort of memories of what happened to me.”
Coming Out
While Lyle Menendez claimed that he was happily married with Rebecca, things took a dramatic turn when it was revealed that the convicted murder was actually getting close to someone else.
Lyle’s former prison mate Eugene L. Weems was only too happy to spill the beans, and claimed that Menendez was actually living a double life as a gay man.
Speaking with the press, Eugene quipped:
“Behind these prison walls he was considered a coward – and a rich gay boy”.

According to Weems, Lyle’s alleged boyfriend is a criminal named Chino, who is an ex-gang member.
“One day I looked in Lyle’s cell, I was shocked to see him lying in a bunk, hugged up with Chino.
He quickly hopped up once he saw me standing at his cell door. He began apologizing to me and asked me not to say anything about what I had seen.”
But his former prison mate didn’t stay quiet. In fact, he wrote a detailed book about him called Prison Secrets: The Untold Truths About One of America’s Most Notorious Murderers. And Lyle’s relationship with his cell mate was fully documented.
Predictably, this didn’t go down well with wife Rebecca Sneed. It caused so many arguments between the pair that Lyle eventually requested to be moved to an alternative unit.
