Mo Farah has had an illustrious athletic career. With Olympic and World Final golds under his belt, the runner is the most successful British track athlete in modern Olympic history.

Now, Mo Farah is a household name, and fans want to know what kind of life Mo leads behind the cameras. In fact, when he’s not breaking records on the running track, Mo Farah leads a quiet and adorable life with his wife Tania and his children.

The runner also has an interesting family history, having fled Somalia for the UK, where his father lived.

But what else do we know about Mo Farah’s family?

Mo Farah’s Family

Mo Farah moved from Djibouti to London when he was just eight years old. His father, Mukhtar Farah, was born in London but returned to Somalia for a holiday and that’s where he met Mo’s mother.

Mo’s grandfather worked in a bank in Somalia, and young Mo lived with his grandparents, his mother and his two young brothers. Later, his father moved back to London and Mo Farah’s family didn’t see much of him.

Speaking of his childhood memories, Mo said:

“I remember his trips to see us in Africa. He used to bring me footballs, and once he brought me some shoes with flashing lights on. That was fantastic. I loved them.”

Mo’s brothers, Mahad and Ahmed, were just toddlers when they accompanied Mo and their father to the UK. Later, Mo Farah’s family were separated, with Mo staying with his aunt in Hanworth, where he was able to focus on his athletic training.

His brothers say that they all used to race as children, with Mo clearly demonstrating his stellar running ability at a young age.

“He always used to run with my brothers and my cousins. I can’t remember if they ever beat him, but I wish I’d been able to race him,” Mahad said.

Mo Farah’s Wife

Mo met his future wife, Tania Nell, at Feltham Community College when they were teens.

The two were close in school but kept their eventual relationship a secret for a while. Mo and Tania married in 2010 in London, inviting guests from the world of elite sport like Paula Radcliffe and Steve Cram.

They spent some time living in Portland, Oregon, where Mo trained with an elite group and Tania opened her own spa.

From the beginning of their relationship, Tania had to get used to Mo’s growing athletics career. With Mo gone for training a large part of the year, Tania is left alone. She said:

“It’s hard but it’s something that we’ve had to cope with since we first got together really. Mo was going away a lot from day one, so I had to get used to that pretty quickly.”

In May 2017, the couple moved back to the UK and Mo Farah’s family now live in a lavish house in Surrey.

The property has a massive garden along with a swimming pool, plus a gorgeous family kitchen with an island.

There’s even a treadmill in the living room so the athlete can keep up with his training when he’s at home.

How Many Children Does Mo Farah Have?

In fact, Mo has four children in total. Mo and Tania welcomed their first children, twin girls Aisha and Amani in 2012 – right as Mo was winning medals at the London Olympics.

Three years later, they had a son called Hussein.

Mo’s fourth child is Rhianna, who Tania had in a previous relationship and is the oldest of the four.

However, Mo makes clear that he considers Rhianna to be his as much as his biological children. The athlete helped Tania raise Rhianna when she was a toddler, and he says that she sees him as a father.

Mo said: “It upsets me when people say she’s my stepdaughter. She is not. The minute I met Rhianna I loved her.”
