The popular TV star has had a remarkable career, and she’s still managed it whilst juggling a busy family life, too. With three children and a husband at home, Mariska also plays a mother with her standout role in Law & Order, meaning on-screen children to boot!
Who Is Mariska Hargitay?
If you’re a fan of Law & Order then you’ll no doubt recognise Mariska Hargitay for her ongoing fan-favorite role as Olivia.
The American actress was born to actor Mickey Hargitay and actress Jayne Mansfield – nothing like keeping a profession in the family, is there!

Before she got her Law & Order role, Mariska first appeared in the 1985 horror/comedy movie Ghoulies. Her television debut then followed in 1986 with Downtown.
After plenty of TV and movie spots, Hargitay appeared in the pilot episode of Law & Order and is still playing Olivia Benson over 20 years later. That’s commitment!
And with the TV role taking up so many years of her life, it’s no surprise she would have to raise a family of kids alongside her full-time career.

Who Is The Actress Married To?
Mariska Hargitay is happily married to fellow actor and fellow Law & Order co-star Peter Hermann. The pair met on the set of the show (no surprise there when they’re both there so much!), and he even has a recurring role alongside his wife as Trevor Langan.

Peter has also had a number of recurring TV roles, including soap opera Guiding Light and Beautiful People.
Mariska Hargitay Children: Birth And Adoption
The Mariska Hargitay Children consist of three kids: one biological son, an adopted daughter and an adopted son, making for a happy family brood!

Mariska and Peter’s biological son, August, was born in June 2006. He was born via an emergency C-section.
In April 2011, Amaya was adopted by Mariska and Peter. They also attended Amaya’s birth.
In October of the same year, they adopted their third child, Andrew.
Mariska is very open about posting adorable family snaps on social media, so it’s normal to see the family out and about together at sports games and other family events.
The kids don’t even seem to mind the pap!

Son August Miklos Friedrich Hermann
Two years after the pair got married, Mariska and husband Peter welcomed their first son into the world: August. But the pregnancy and birth wasn’t easy. Mariska had to deliver August via an emergency C-Section. She was 42-years-old at the time of his birth.
Mariska also ran into diet problems during her pregnancy, and admitted that it became hard for her in the final months to balance everything and keep her health. Despite the problems, Mariska was excited from day one about the birth of her son.
And luckily it all worked out!

Daughter Amaya Josephine Hermann
Daughter Amaya was the next family member to arrive. Mariska and Peter wanted siblings for August, but Mariska was now 49 and worried about pregnancy complications at such a late age. And who can blame her when she had to deliver August through emergency C-section.

So Mariska and her husband decided next to adopt. Amaya was adopted in 2011 from Africa.
Son Andrew Nicolas Hargitay Hermann
With such a successful adoption, Mariska Hargitay wouldn’t say no to another. Their son, Andrew, this time wasn’t planned to be adopted. They were contacted by their lawyer to tell them that a baby named Andrew was in need of a home. He fell into their lap right when they needed him!
Andrew had been born two months premature. The resultant adoption process happened quicker than expected for Mariska and Peter.

Andrew then joined the brood to bond and play with his siblings, Amaya and August. Andrew fit in well very quickly with his siblings – with no family drama to worry about (although we’re sure there was a little sibling rivalry there, as always).
Mariska And Son August Appear Together In Got Milk Ad
Son August has been following after his mother, too, by appearing in the spotlight! The pair appeared together for a magazine Got Milk ad, complete with milk moustache!

Now 57-year-old, Mariska is still raising her happy brood of children as well as finding the bad guys in her continuing role as Olivia in Law & Order.
