It’s probably one of the biggest American dramas of all time. And one of our favourites too!

Little House on the Prairie was must-see viewing during the 70s and 80s, so it’s no big surprise that fans have been keen to catch up with the original cast.

When a cast reunion was announced back in 2019, it seemed like both viewers and tabloids had a few questions that they wanted answering. What had happened to their favourite characters, and did the actors still get along?

If you’re as big a fan as we are, here’s everything you need to know about the emotional reunion.

Little House on the Prairie Cast Reunion 2019

Just like any good family reunion, there were tears, laughs, and some surprises along the way.

The cast hadn’t seen that much of each other since they filmed a whopping nine seasons of the show, so it was definitely going to be an emotional one!

The tears started flowing before they’d even started their interviews– and it was Karen Grassle who was first to well up.

The actress, who played Caroline “Ma” Ingalls in the show, got a bit emotional when a clip was played of the cast all those years ago.

Adam 12 Cast: Where are they now?

She wept:

“I got tears in my eyes.

First of all, I’m sitting here with these three daughters… just kills me… I’m not really that sentimental!”.

Melissa Gilbert, who played TV favourite Laura Ingalls, wasn’t that surprised to find herself crying though.

“Yeah, well, I’m a crier anyway — and I’m also incredibly co-dependent!

So Ma goes, I go, I guess. It’s a very emotional experience, especially because we were together for so long, and it was an intense experience. We were a family there.”

Feuds?

One big surprise during the Little House on the Prairie cast reunion was the appearance of Melissa Sue Anderson- who has kept her distance from her co-stars over the years.

There still seems to be major beef with her on-screen sister Melissa Gilbert, who spoke out about their feud in the past.

Kevin Jamal Woods: Where is the actor now?

Melissa Gilbert was just nine years old when she made some pretty choice remarks about her TV sibling, and put actress Alison Arngrim on alert about who she needed to watch out for on set.

“Whatever you do, you watch out for that Melissa Sue Anderson,” Melissa Gilbert had said to Alison.

She’s very dangerous. She’s evil, and I hate her and she hates me. She tried to kill me, you know. And she’ll kill you, too, if she gets the chance!”.

What was initially passed off as a child’s remark developed into a long-standing feud between the two actresses.

It wasn’t until 2014 until Melissa Gilbert elaborated on what things were like with Melissa Sue Anderson. And she wasn’t holding back…

Speaking back on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live, Melissa Gilbert said:

“[Melissa Sue Anderson was] hateful, horrid, mean, terrible, mean, difficult,” Gilbert said. “She hated me. She knocked me off the waggon when I was 9”.

Family Favourites

While the feuding between Melissa Gilbert and Melissa Sue Anderson was a bit of a distraction, the 2019 cast reunion was actually quite heart-warming.

The family-friendly fare focused on what brought the characters together- and the cast too!

This emphasis on family spilled over off-screen most of the time, which was all thanks to star and executive producer Michael Landon.

Tyler Cameron: Who is the star dating?

His son Michael Landon Jr explained:

“The great thing about the series was the hours that my father set.

It doesn’t happen anymore, but he was always home for dinner.”

As for Landon’s on-screen legacy, Karen Grassle said,

“I wish Michael could see what it still means to people.”
