Agnes Hailstone came to wider fame when she starred in the National Geographic docuseries Life Below Zero. And she soon won herself fans thanks to her tough approach to living off the remote landscapes of Alaska.

Not much is known about Agnes before she became famous.
While she hasn’t said too much on the subject, it sounds like she had a really tough time growing up. She was raised in a big family, but lost both her mother and brother in horrific ice storms.
Living in sub zero temperatures isn’t an easy feat, but Agnes and her family have managed to deal with the elements in astonishing style.
After she was signed up to Life Below Zero, it didn’t take long for her to stun viewers with her hunting skills.

Using her rifle Mossing Nagant and her knife called Ulu, Agnes and husband Chip manage to find enough food to feed their family, and use animal hides for clothing and blankets.

But it’s not just about getting food- it’s a spiritual process for the family too.
“My mum taught me how to free the souls of hunter animals… so their spirits can be lifted.
It’s respect for the animal”.
Life Below Zero
While things are tough for the Hailstone family, Agnes wouldn’t have it any other way.
Her family and ancestors have lived in Alaska for generations, and have strong ties on the Kobuk River in Noorvik, where she currently lives with Chip.
Agnes’ husband moved to Alaska when he was 19 years old, and they met a few years after his relocation. Chip and Agnes have now been married for over 25 years.
The couple are parents to two daughters, Iriqtaq and Tinmiaq, as well as Mary, Caroline, and Qutan. Agnes also has two sons from a previous relationship called Douglas and John.
Both Chip and Agnes teach their daughters (and their grandchildren!) a blend of traditional and modern ways of hunting and gathering on native lands.
The couple want to make sure that their children can provide enough for themselves, as well as their future families.

New Series
After increasing demand from fans, National Geographic announced that they would be bringing the hit franchise back.
Life Below Zero will be returning sometime this year, but it seems like it will be switching up the casting for its next season.
Titled Life Below Zero: Next Generation, the show will invite some of its core cast members to return, including Sue Aikens and Ricko DeWilde. But fans are a bit concerned that Chip and Agnes Hailstone won’t be making an appearance.
