Kim Tate: Is She Coming Back To The Emmerdale Village?

(Image/ Source: metro.co.uk)

The resident villain of Emmerdale, Kim Tate has appeared on the soap since the late 1980s.

In that time, she’s had a volatile marriage to Frank Tate, faked her own death, and orchestrated more than one money-making scam.

After leaving the series in 1999, many wondered if she would ever return – but she did. The iconic character took back Home Farm in 2018, and since then she’s been involved in many more explosive storylines.

Now, it looks like the character is gone for good – but will Kim Tate return to Emmerdale again?

Who is Kim Tate?

Kim Tate was introduced to Emmerdale on the 12th of December 1989. Working as Frank Tate’s secretary, she had an affair with him, and later married and took over Home Farm.

However, the controversial character isn’t done with affairs yet and starts sleeping with Dave Glover.

By 1998, Frank is long dead (a heart attack no doubt brought on by Kim), and Kim Tate has married Steve Marchant.

Jonny McPherson: What Do We Know About The Emmerdale Star?

Kim’s plans to pin a hit-and-run and robbery on Steven almost come undone thanks to Frank’s son, Chris. She escapes the village in a helicopter – and that’s the end of Kim Tate.

Except, it isn’t. In 2005, she’s heard of again as she sends flowers to Seth Armstrong’s funeral. Then, 13 years after her last appearance, she turns up in Emmerdale again.

Strolling out of prison, Kim Tate is met by Graham Foster, Joe Tate’s legal guardian (Kim’s nephew-in-law). Then the real drama begins – within weeks of returning to Home Farm she’s pushed off a balcony by Faith Dingle.

Is Kim Tate returning to Emmerdale?

After recovering from her fall, Kim Tate returned to the Emmerdale village as a full-time character. She reunited with her adult son James, who now goes by Jamie, and also dropped a bombshell about her relationship status.

It turns out she’s now married to Graham Foster, but in true Kim Tate style, she ends up plotting to kill him anyway.

Charity and Vanessa: What’s Next For The Emmerdale Characters?

Most recently, Kim’s daughter-in-law was killed by serial killer Meena as part of a dramatic Emmerdale Survival Week storyline. The villain was already mourning the presumed death of her son, Jamie – who turns out not to be dead at all – and the loss of custody of her granddaughter.

Now, after all of the recent carnage, Kim Tate has left the village – but is she coming back?

Emmerdale bosses haven’t given anything away, but viewers are convinced this isn’t the last we’ve seen of Kim Tate. One fan said: “Gutted to see evil Kim leave, but she’ll be back. Nobody can bring Kim down.”

A real-life love triangle

But who is behind the iconic soap character Kim Tate? She is played by Claire King, and the actress has had almost as turbulent a life as the character she plays (minus the murder).

Claire married her co-star Peter Amory in 1994, who played her stepson Chris Tate in Emmerdale. However, tragedy struck when Claire found out Peter had been having an affair – with none other than another Emmerdale cast member, Samantha Giles.

Claire revealed: “I questioned Pete and he admitted it had been going on for a while. He told me it was over but then it started again. At that point I said: ‘Well, you have to go with her then, because it obviously isn’t going to stop.'”

Dotty EastEnders: What Does Actress Molly Conlin Look Like Now?

After the break-up, Claire said she was suffering from depression. She said: “I think I was depressed. I was on a very rocky road at the time. It wasn’t a great time and that’s where I went a bit off the rails, drinking too much.”

The Kim Tate actress has also had her share of pain in the form of rheumatoid arthritis, which she developed in the 1990s. Because of the pain, Claire has had to have joints removed and plates put in her fingers.

Claire has also had a hysterectomy after doctors found non-cancerous growths in her womb, which were causing intense pain.

Her arthritis also meant that she had to take a six-month sabbatical from filming Emmerdale in 2020 in order to isolate at home.
