Released in 2003, the film Holes was a huge part of any millennial’s childhood. Based on Louis Sachar’s book of the same name, the film follows Stanley Yelnats as he gets sent to Camp Green Lake, a juvenile detention camp where the inmates are made to dig holes in the desert.

Hector Zeroni in Holes was played by the half African American-half Moroccan actor Khleo Thomas.
The role was the actor’s first foray into acting, and even today he’s still known for his portrayal of the quiet inmate of Camp Green Lake.
In fact, he said: “As an actor, I think a lot of people wish to have one role on their resume that [audiences] can forever resonate with.
You’ve got someone like Harrison Ford who, no matter what, is Indiana Jones or Han Solo. You’ve got Daniel Radcliffe who, no matter what, is Harry Potter. I love that I can embrace the fact that the name Zero will be tied to my name for the rest of my life.”

Khleo Thomas has said the audition process for Hector Zeroni in Holes was daunting, mainly because there were many other actors who wanted to play Zero.
Luckily, Khleo was chosen to do an audition scene with Shia LaBeouf that day, who plays Stanley Yelnats. The two improvised a short scene, and Khleo got the part.
He explained: “The director walked up before we started and said, ‘You know what? Scrap the script. I just want to see you two just go for it. Just improv and see what happens.’
And that’s the only thing I got to do that day. About 48 hours [later] we got the call: ‘Hey, we would like to sign him up to bring this character to life.'”

But what does Khleo Thomas look like now? Well, it’s safe to say that he doesn’t look like little Zero anymore.
Holes was filmed in the summer of 2002, meaning Khleo was just 13 when he played Hector Zeroni in Holes. He’s now 33 years old and has grown in both career and stature.
Khleo Thomas didn’t ditch acting after his appearance in Holes like some young movie stars. In fact, he’s made a career out of acting as well as gaming and social media.

After Holes, Khleo Thomas got roles in the Disney film Going to the Mat as well as films like Dirty and Hurricane Season.
However, he also has an interest in gaming. He has a Twitch channel with over 30,000 followers, plus 370,000 followers on his Instagram and 73,000 subscribers on YouTube.
On YouTube, he releases videos about gaming and his own music. In fact, he released his own EPs in 2012 and 2014.
But anyone who’s seen Holes will know Khleo’s music skills. He actually helped write and sing on Dig It Up, the theme song for the film.
About his love of music, Khleo said: “You look at Holes and you look at the theme song “Dig It.” We wrote that song and we were all in the studio together — me and everyone else featured on that record — with Doug E. Fresh. I immediately got right to work on more music as soon as we were done filming.”
