Elsie Otter Pechenik has attracted a LOT of attention thanks to her unusual name. So how did parents Zooey Deschanel and Jacob Pechenik come up with the idea?

Elsie was born five years ago- but it took her parents a fair few months decide on the perfect name for their baby.
Zooey and Jacob eventually decided to spill the beans about their name for her- and they seemed a bit tentative about how her name would go down with the press.
Chatting with People, the couple said:
“It’s Elsie… Otter. Like the animal. Sea Otter!
We just really liked the name Elsie and then we both love otters — they’re very sweet and they’re also smart.
They use tools … they hold hands while they sleep, there’s so many amazing things about otters. They’re wonderful animals.”

While the couple were doing their best to keep photos of their little one under wraps, Zooey’s New Girl castmate Lamorne Morris said:
“She’s an extremely cute baby. “She looks like Zooey!”
The couple also have a son called Charlie, who is now four years old.
Meet the Parents
Elsie Otter Pechenik’s parents looked the picture of happiness at the time of her birth.
Jacob was Zooey’s second husband, and they got together while working on the 2015 movie Rock the Kasbah. Zooey later converted to Judaism for Jacob when they got married just a few months after they started dating.
While the couple had a good run, things started to go wrong for Zooey and Jacob four years into their marriage.
By September 2019, they had announced that they’d be going their separate ways. This was around the time that Zooey had started hooking up with someone new.
Predictably, rumours started buzzing about the cause of the split, but apparently things were amicable between the pair.
In their official statement, Zooey and Jacob said:
“After much discussion and a long period of contemplation we have decided we are better off as friends, business partners and co-parents rather than life partners.
We remain committed to our business, our values and most of all our children. Thank you for respecting our privacy at this time.”

The parents decided on joint custody for their children.
Jacob Pechenik later opened up about the divorce, and spoke candidly to HollywoodLife:
“Yeah, everything is amicable, and we have two beautiful children together. We’ve been raising them and we’re going to continue to raise them, and take great care of them… I’m happy”.
Zooey Deschanel quickly moved on to Property Brothers star Jonathan Scott, who she met on the set of Carpool Karaoke in August 2019.
