After bagging roles in the likes of 28 Days Later and Peaky Blinders, he’s gone on to be a huge star. But he’s not so keen on fame…
When he’s not working, he’s usually spending time with his wife and two adorable boys. And they might end up following in their father’s footsteps too!

Cillian Murphy Kids
Cillian Murphy’s kids are Malachy, who’s fifteen, and Aran, who is thirteen.
The Irish actor and wife Yvonne McGuinness, who is a visual artist, have encouraged their kids to get involved in the arts. So much so, son Aran is already focusing on his acting career!
The teen made his Broadway debut in Hamnet, a play based on Shakespeare’s Hamlet. It quickly gained critical acclaim, but Cillian is being cautious about exposing his sons to the modern world.

Speaking with The Sun, the Irish actor said:
“I think it’s a very complex time growing up, I think things are changing a lot…
It’s a totally changed world… and I think we’re all aware of the effect of the internet and life online. It feels to me like lots of kids, their lives exist inside this device, and it’s something we can never really understand, not being natives.
I don’t think I have full authority to speak on it other than as a father, and it’s tricky — it’s tricky negotiating it and navigating it for sure”.
Acting Career
He might be a renowned actor now, but Cillian started out having more of an interest in music than anything else.
When he was at school, he was busy forming a band with his brother called The Sons of Mr Green Genes, which they still perform in today.
The star began taking an interest in acting at university, and eventually got an audition at Corcadorca Theatre Company for the play Disco Pigs. And the rest is history!
Cillian Murphy has starred in everything from Danny Boyle’s Sunshine to The Dark Knight Rises, and will be taking on the title role in the upcoming movie Oppenheimer with his old pal Christopher Nolan.

But it seems like the star hasn’t made peace with his fame just yet. If anything, he feels a bit embarrassed about it all…
In a rare interview with the press, the Cillian said:
“I feel embarrassed by it sometimes. I’m just a f**king actor.
There are doctors and nurses and f****g people that work… I struggle with that. I mean, actors are overpaid, you know?
It’s nice when you get paid, when you’re young, and you’ve gone from having no money, but the Catholic guilt kicks in immediately, and I’m like ‘It’s all going to go wrong. You don’t deserve this’. And I don’t.”
He added:
“I never wanted to see my name over a title of a movie. None of that sh** ever entered my thinking, ever.”
Family Life
Cillian’s reluctance to fame is something that’s been noted by fans over the years.
He’s spoken out about his lack of interest in all things celebrity, and prefers to hang out with his wife and kids.
