They seem to be the couple that are doomed to fail on Married At First Sight US. While Chris and Alyssa eventually tied the knot, fans have been quick to suggest that the pair had been set up by producers for ratings.
So what’s actually going on with Chris and his would-be bride Alyssa?
Chris Married At First Sight
The latest season of Married At First Sight US has been fraught with difficulties for budding couples- particularly for Chris and Alyssa.
Before they even set eyes on each other, viewers were quick to notice how picky Alyssa was.
She’s certainly not shy about her high expectations, and even confessed to purchasing ten wedding dresses beforehand in case the bridal shop didn’t have any gowns that met her exacting standards.

Alyssa’s fault finding hasn’t boded well for Chris, who is much more laid back than his bride. In fact, some fans are convinced that the show’s so-called “relationship experts” have deliberately paired up mismatched couples to boost ratings.
One social media user wrote:
“Why do they insist on matching affectionate people with non-affectionate people?”.
Another fan shared the same frustration:
“It amazes me that this show continues matching people that will obviously not be compatible with the other person”.
While they might work on paper, it seems like Alyssa’s been struggling to completely open herself up to the MAFS process. They did get hitched in the end though…
Marriage
While Chris was looking forward to his big day, Alyssa was much more hesitant. And things didn’t exactly go to plan.
When she saw her husband, Alyssa had issues. She slammed Chris for not being her usual type and looking like “an estate agent”. He is actually an estate agent, but still!

In a stark contrast to Alyssa, Chris said that his wife-to-be was beautiful, and saw “no red flags whatsoever”. Bless him.
Once they’d said their vows, Chris was eager to cuddle with his new wife, but Alyssa kept her distance through the entire wedding ceremony.
It seems like she shouldn’t have ever signed up to the show if we’re honest…
Honeymoon
Unfortunately, things did NOT get better for the couple when they went off for their honeymoon in Puerto Rico.
Chris reported that their time away felt “awkward”, and he didn’t know what to do to make his new marriage work.
Alyssa didn’t want to stay in the same room as Chris during their getaway, and Chris finally summoned up the courage to speak out against his new wife.
“I think you’ve tapped out… I think you went into this expecting the perfect person, and when you got somebody that wasn’t, you said ‘I’m done’…
There was never a point in this process where you put in the effort”.
Ouch. Probably a fair point though…

This led to Alyssa declaring that she and Chris were not compatible, which seems like the final nail in the coffin for their future together.
During the couple’s press rounds after the show, Alyssa’s awkwardness about her marriage has gotten worse.
She continued to irk viewers during an appearance on Married at First Sight: Afterparty. When host Keshia Knight Pulliam pressed Alyssa to give a specific reason as to why she wasn’t willing to get to know Chris, she struggled to come up with an answer.
And when she made an appearance on the Cosby Show, she walked off set when she was asked why she went on the show in the first place if she wasn’t willing to be open to the process.
At the time of writing, Chris and Alyssa are still technically married. How long that will last is anyone’s guess…
