Bear Grey Payne: Who is the son of Liam Payne and Cheryl Tweedy?
The name Bear Grey Payne sparked huge debate on social media when fans of Liam Payne and Cheryl Tweedy found out what they called their son.
But who is little bear and what is he like today?
My baby is called… Bear Grey Payne:
Here’s something that will make you feel old – it has been nearly five years since we found out X factor legend Cheryl Tweedy had not only had a baby with one of the contestants she judged, but named him Bear Payne.
The name caused quite the stir, with it also doubling up as British slang for being in lots of pain.
The jokes of course flooded social media.
One Twitter user tweeted: “Still can’t believe that Liam and Cheryl named their son something British people used to say when they stubbed their toe”
Neither can we, but here he is now at five-years-old.
Secret pregnancy:
Bear Grey Payne is one of the most protected celebrity children in the world!
His mum Cheryl Tweedy kept her pregnancy almost entirely secret, whilst Bear’s dad former One Direction star Liam Payne also keep quiet.
Since Bear’s birth in 2017, Cheryl and Liam have kept their son mostly out of the spotlight – other than a few pictures of his cute little hands on Instagram.
Liam and Cheryl told media they would not be showing Bear’s face publicly to allow him to have an entirely private childhood.
However, that hasn’t stopped fans of the pair being completely besotted with him!
Announcing his birth:
Officially born on March 22, 2017, Bear entered the world.
To announce his birth, Liam and Cheryl shared a polaroid photo on Instagram of Liam holding the baby.
On Mother’s day, Liam made his own announcement.
He said: “My close friends and family know there are very few times when I’m left speechless… wow! I’m incredibly happy to welcome our new baby boy into the world, it’s a moment that I will never forget for the rest of my life and my favourite memory I have so far.
“I’m completely in awe of his incredible mother and how she has been the whole way through this, she’s really made my dreams come true. We haven’t named him yet but he’s already capturing hearts including mine. I feel very blessed. Happy Mother’s Day everyone!”
Cheryl then added her own announcement, writing: “On Wednesday 22nd March Liam and I became parents to an incredibly beautiful, healthy baby boy, weighing 7lb 9 and looking like a dream. Although he still doesn’t have a name he is already stealing hearts.
“We are all madly in love and overwhelmingly happy with our little arrival. Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers around the world. A day that now has a different meaning to me forever”.
Bear Gray Payne now:
Not much more was shared from the private family, as the two focus on co-parenting.
Bear’s parents are no longer together since the couple split in June 2018.
However, Liam has been very much in the picture and found it hard to be away from his son during the coronavirus lockdowns, which the 1D star said was very hard for him.
However, with restrictions lifted, Liam has been back with his son and all the better for it.
Recently Liam gave a rare bit of insight into being a dad, with both parents wanting Bear away from fame and the paparazzi.
However, Bear could still end up following that path as he loves singing and Dancing, and is very cheeky!
He once even pretended to have Covid to try and cop a day off school.
Too clever!
Speaking on Heart radio back in October, the One Direction star, said the animated kid does have the musical buzz which he admitted “scares me a little bit”.
However, the supportive dad insisted that he’d never stop Bear from doing what he loves, so if that’s showbiz, so be it!
Why is Bear Gray Payne’s name Bear?
Liam and Cheryl announced the unusual name Bear Grey Payne a few weeks after his birth.
Despite fans poking fun at it, there is quite an adorable meaning behind the choice.
In an interview on The Late Late Show with James Corden, Liam opened up about baby name inspiration.
He said, Liam said, “You know what? When he was born, I think one of the midwives said it, he actually has this thing where if they don’t have a good cry, they get fluid on their lungs which is quite serious.
“So he was going ‘grrr’, growling away when he was sleeping, so I had specialists running in and out of the hospital while my missus was asleep and he was being checked over, and they were like, ‘Oh, I’m not really sure, we’ll get someone else in.
“And I had like, ten doctors coming in the room and in the end, one guy was like, ‘Dude I’m not being funny, there’s nothing wrong with him, just likes to make a lot of noise’. And that’s carried on ever since, so he just became Bear.”
