Abi Ion: What Do We Know About Arlene Phillips’ Daughter?

Arlene Phillips has been on our TV screens for many years, but the choreographer and presenter’s career goes way back. She’s probably best known for her stint judging Strictly Come Dancing but has since appeared on other reality shows and has produced her own TV shows.

However, outside of her career, what do we know about the presenter? Well, we know that the 79-year-old has two grown-up daughters, Alana and Abi Ion.

Let’s find out more about her daughters, in particular Abi Ion.

Who is Abi Ion?

Abi Ion is Arlene Phillips’ youngest daughter. She was born in 1990 and actually has a different father than her sister, Alana. This is because Arlene had already split up from her long-term partner Danny Noble in 1980.

Later, Arlene Phillips met Angus Ion, who is Abi Ion’s father. We don’t know what Abi does, but we do know that she is very close with her mother, and publicly cheered on her mum when she appeared on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!

Arlene has called her daughter Abi a “blessing” because she was born when Arlene was 47 years old and very close to menopause.

Giovanni Pernice Strictly Come Dancing: Is He Leaving the Show?

Arlene has spoken openly about having her second child so late in life, saying:

“[I was told] I was some kind of freak, that I would find it hard to bond with my baby when I could be the grandmother. I’m so vociferous if anybody says something to me that I find offensive. But I was so vulnerable.

I let all these remarks go by with tears in my eyes. Nowadays, being an older mother is very common. When you let all those things go you see the absolute joy of having a baby when you’re older.

You really do feel like you’ve been given a gift.”

Arlene Phillips Husband

But who are the fathers of Alana and Abi Ion? And is Arlene Phillips married now?

We already know that Abi Ion’s father is Angus Ion. He is a set designer, and Angus and Arlene met when they both worked on Freddie Mercury’s music video for I Was Born To Love You.

However, Arlene met Alana’s father quite a few years before that. In fact, Arlene married Danny Noble when she was just 18 and Danny was 27 years old.

Alana Phillips was born in 1979, making her more than ten years older than her sister. Though we don’t know what her sister does, we do know that Alana is a makeup artist.

Dan Walker Wife: Who Is The Strictly Star Married To?

Today, Arlene Phillips is still in a relationship with Abi Ion’s father, Angus. However, the TV presenter has chosen not to get married again.

We don’t know the reason for this, but regardless, it seems that Arlene is very happy in her relationship with Angus. The two have now been together for 37 years!

Her I’m A Celeb Journey

In November 2021, Arlene Phillips joined the cast of the latest season of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!, making her the oldest contestant ever to appear on the show.

Sadly, she didn’t get very far on the show. In fact, Arlene was the first person to be eliminated on day 13, when she received the lowest share of the public vote along with Snoochie Shy.

Jordan North Partners: Who Has the I’m a Celeb Star Been Dating?

Arlene’s daughter Abi Ion has said that she was initially worried when her mum decided to head into the jungle. She said:

“I am very protective of her but as the weeks went by and I saw how she began to prep herself, exercising, eating smaller portions, I became very proud of her and excited for her.

She’s been brilliant. Even in The Clink I thought the way she handled it was amazing. She surprised me by the way she just got on with everything.

I know she had a little stumble when wanting to leave but I was happy she worked through it and now she’s in the main camp she is absolutely shining.

I really don’t have the words to describe how proud I am. Hopefully she will feel it when I squeeze her with all my love when she’s out.”
