It’s great that some of the better fashion choices of the 90s are making a comeback thanks to Topshop’s time machine, but there are definitely a few hair-raising throwbacks we’d rather never see again. How many on our list did you dream of having?
1. Up Do with Two Weird Side Bits
We don’t have a clue what this was actually called, and the people wearing it didn’t have a clue what they were doing.
2. Crimping
Crimping: not even once.
3. Butterfly Clips Galore
Probably the most coveted of all 90s ‘hairstyles’ – really it was just lazy cornrows.
4. Straight & Mismatched
Rachel from S Club 7 made this do popular. To achieve this look, cut your ends unevenly and straighten to high heaven.
5. The Rachel
Jen-A was THE Rachel of the 90s, and even her hair was trademarked.
6. Raver Bunches
These little bunches of joy were mainly seen in music videos or at nightclubs. Probably practical, definitely not stylish.
7. Short Hair, Don’t Care
The cropped, shorter look (as demo’d by Meg Ryan above) could go one of two ways: empowering or embarrassing.
8. Big, Curly & Full of Colour
Oh Christina, why? Inspiring girls to whip out a highlighter pen and hair curlers should be a crime.
