Saturday nights used to be very different as a kid in the 90s – TV was far more enjoyable for starters. We’ve rounded up some classic television treats you probably indulged in as a kid. Which was your fave?
1. Noel’s House Party
To this day, we have no idea what Mr Blobby is or why they lived together in a house, but we do know they enjoyed parties more than life.
2. The Generation Game
The conveyor belt round was everything.
3. Don’t Try This at Home
Davina McCall was put through the ringer for this show – if a contestant couldn’t complete a death-defying challenge, she had to do it instead. We’ll pass, Davina.
4. Jonathan Creek
This show wasn’t for kids, but we all tried to convince our parents to let us stay up and watch it at some point, leading to nightmares about being murdered in elaborate ways.
5. Bugs
Bugs was a high-tech show for it’s day, and offered up some truly futuristic technology, such as a satellite navigation system, portable computers and genetically modified crops. Wait a minute…
6. Casualty
You probably watched Casualty with your mum – or from the top of the stairs if your bedtime was before 8pm. It’s probably the show that stopped our generation being so squeamish too.
7. National Lottery Jet Set
Of all the shows tacked on to a lottery announcement, Jet Set was the most excusable. You always wanted to see if last week’s winners could keep on winning and eventually see the world. Ahh that’s the Jet Set life.
8. Gladiators
What better way to enjoy your Saturday evening than by watching Wolf and the gang battling it out with poor blighters who were woefully under qualified?
9. Blind Date
Before the likes of Tinder, Dinner Date and the Undateables came Blind Date – super cringey but too good to pass up!
10. The New Adventures of Superman
If you need any proof that Superman got gritty in Man of Steel, just compare it with this show. This wouldn’t fly on television these days (pun absolutely intended), but did pretty well to appeal to boys and girls.
