It’s safe to say that Adam Peaty has got plenty of accolades under his belt. He happens to be a three-time Olympic gold medallist, and eight-time World Champion in swimming.
Not content with becoming one of the best swimmers in the world, Adam has now set his sights on Strictly Come Dancing- and he’s causing a bit of a stir with his new-found moves.
Here’s everything you need to know about the Olympic swimmer…
Early Days
Adam’s love for swimming started when he was young- but he’d initially had an acute fear of water.
He built his confidence by having swimming lessons with his brother, and soon Adam was competing in races. He even set some new records too!
But Adam still wasn’t fully invested in swimming as a teen.
He was preoccupied with going out drinking- until he discovered that Craig Benson, who he knew well from the junior circuit, had made the semi-final of the 100m breaststroke at the 2012 London Olympics. This changed everything for Adam, and immediately started his swimming training full time.

It was here that Adam Peaty started to compete in events across Europe, and soon began to make a name for himself as one of the country’s best breaststroke swimmers.
Going for Gold
Adam came to public fame after he won gold in the 100 metre breaststroke at the 2016 Olympics in Brazil, beating his own world record in the final to record a time of 57.13 seconds.
Since then, he’s continued to dominate men’s swimming.
Adam Peaty has a whopping 35 gold medals, eight silvers and two bronzes in his career so far.

And earlier this summer, he retained his title- the first British swimmer to ever do so.
The athlete is also an eight-time World Champion, a sixteen-time European Champion and a three-time Commonwealth Champion. Go Adam!
He’s now currently taking a break from swimming for his mental health before pushing for more success in 2022.
“I’m taking a break because I’ve been going extremely hard for as long as I can remember. I’ve averaged two weeks off a year for the last seven years.”
Strictly Come Dancing
Adam Peaty made the shock announcement that he would be joining the line-up for this year’s Strictly Come Dancing on Radio 1 earlier this year.
Chatting with Newsbeat’s Steve Holden, the swimmer said:
“I think this will come as a surprise to a lot of people, but I’m so excited to finally share the news that I’ll be joining Strictly this year,” he said in a statement.
I’m really looking forward to doing something totally different and challenging myself away from the pool. I’m hoping my competitive nature is going to compensate for my dancing abilities!”
Partnered with dancing pro Katya Jones, Adam Peaty has so far danced the Cha Cha, the Quickstep, and the Rumba – while dressed as an Avatar character, obviously.

Frank Lampard Net Worth: The low down
Adam started off the show strong enough with his Cha Cha, but he fell down the leader board in week two after his Quickstep. The swimmer received just 19 points out of 40.
And it seemed like things were going from bad to worse for Adam Peaty. His Rumba received a score of just 20 points- leaving him and Katya at the bottom of the leader board.
Fans weren’t very happy about Adam’s score, and promptly took to Twitter to defend the swimmer.
One Twitter user wrote:
“20/40 that is a low score. Adam could be vulnerable tomorrow night. You need to get voting later to save him.”
Another added:
“It didn’t help that Adam was dancing to a terrible song from a terrible film #Strictly.”
So will Adam finally be able to get back into his stride this weekend? We’ve got everything crossed for him!
