Shaun Ryder has had a rollercoaster life. Starting in the Manchester band Happy Mondays, he’s gone on to collaborate with musicians like Gorillaz and appeared on TV shows like I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! and Mastermind.

The mouthy musician was also an iconic figure in the Madchester scene of the 1980s and 90s, developing a reputation for his drug-taking and wild lifestyle.

At age 59, he’s accumulated a mighty net worth over the years, too. But what exactly is Shaun Ryder’s net worth?

Shaun Ryder’s net worth is reportedly close to £2 million.

This incredible wealth is mostly down to his touring responsibilities and later appearances on TV.

Eamonn Holmes Ruth Langsford: Their Turbulent This Morning Career

Shaun Ryder was born in Salford in 1962 and left school at 13 to work on a building site. He didn’t learn the alphabet until he was 26.

He formed his band Happy Mondays in 1980, and are known for hits like Step On and 24 Hour Party People.

In fact, that’s exactly what Shaun was – his autobiography describes how he would often have ecstasy for breakfast and smoke heroin for 48 hours before a big set. In fact, it was Shaun’s drug problem that led to the band’s break up in 1992.

Now though, Shaun is clean and has credited cycling with helping him kick his drug habit.

In comparison to his heydays in Manchester, Shaun lives a quiet life now with his wife and two youngest children.

He said: “After a gig I’m straight off stage, into me slippers and back to the hotel room to watch the news.

When I hit 40 I thought, ‘Wait a minute, your kids are growing up, you’re not young anymore yet you’re living the same life you was at 18.'”

His Career

After Happy Mondays, Shaun Ryder started the band Black Grape with his musician friend Mark Berry, or ‘Bez’. They released their debut album It’s Great When You’re Straight… Yeah in 1995.

However, this band didn’t contribute much to his net worth – they split up after their second album, Stupid Stupid Stupid, didn’t reach the same commercial heights.

Ricky Norwood From EastEnders: What Is He Doing Now?

After the demise of both of his bands in the 1990s, Shaun Ryder looked to TV work in the 2000s to make his wealth.

He was the subject of a BBC3 documentary in 2004, and starred in the tenth series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! in 2010. He managed to make it to the final two, finishing second behind Stacey Solomon.

Later on, he appeared on comedy shows such as Would I Lie To You? and Celebrity Juice, and even put his brain to the test on Mastermind. His specialist subject was, of course, Manchester.

Who Is Shaun Ryder’s Wife?

In 2010, Shaun Ryder married his long-term love, Joanne Ryder, in Manchester.

Guests were initially invited to the christening of their 10-month-old daughter Lulu, then surprised everyone by tying the knot the same day. Lulu was their second daughter after Pearl.

Elton John Net Worth: A Look At His Amazing Career

Shaun has four other children from previous relationships and has also been married once before. His first wife was Oriole Leitch, daughter of the 60s star Donovan.

His children have had a very different childhood to Shaun himself, growing up with Shaun’s wealth and attending private school.

However, Shaun has admitted that one of his daughters didn’t like her private school, and asked to be transferred to a comprehensive.

What Is He Up To Now?

This year, Shaun released his second solo album, Visits from Future Technology.

He said that the album has actually taken ten years, having been made before he appeared on I’m A Celebrity in 2010.

He said: “We did this way back in 2010, and I went straight into the [I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here] jungle.

Then when I came out, I had different management and they decided that I should go and build a profile on television, and it got forgotten about.”

Aside from music, Shaun has also been enjoying spending quality time with his family. During the process of writing the album, one of his daughters arrived from the States to live with him in England.

Recently, Shaun shared a personal picture on Instagram with his eldest daughter Jael and youngest daughter Lulu.
