Thankfully, her family had a business that she could join. Weststar Holidays was a holiday park operator in Essex, which Deborah joined in 1992.

In 2007, she sold her stake in Weststar for £19 million. Two years later, she jumped back into the business game by acquiring Fox Brothers, a textile mill and clothes producer.

Despite her continuing responsibilities on Dragons Den and her many business ventures, Deborah has also found time to have fun, too.

In 2013, she was a contestant on the seventh series of Strictly Come Dancing. She and her partner Robin Windsor made it to week five of the show before being voted off.

Deborah Meaden met her future husband Paul Farmer at a Weststar holiday park in 1985. He was working at the park during a break from university.

They married in 1993 and now live in an elaborate farmhouse in Somerset. Their country estate is comprised of a Grade II listed building plus farm buildings and land.

Deborah Meaden has previously revealed that they once split because Deborah didn’t want children. However, after a short time apart, they were back together again.

Instead of children, Deborah and Paul are the proud parents of rescue animals. In total, the couple lives with two cats, three dogs, six horses, three pigs, five sheep, ten chickens, six ducks and three geese.

Her Painful Accident

In June this year, Deborah was involved in a terrible horse-riding accident.

She posted a picture on Twitter of herself in hospital with her wrist in a cast, saying: “Went in fractured wrist. several x rays,manipulation under painkillers with reassuring voice in my ear and I leave with plastercast and wrist on the mend.”

The 62-year-old has also been struggling with injuries gained during her time on Strictly Come Dancing.

Five years after appearing in the dancing competition, Deborah still needs regular steroid injections for pain.

She explained: “I still have permanent pain in the balls of my feet, which is a constant reminder that I did the show. It started after I spent ten hours a day waltzing and I put too much pressure on them.”
