We’ve loved Rylan Clark since he first appeared on our screen on The X Factor all those years ago.
Not only has the star gone on to enjoy a hugely successful career in television, but he also bagged himself a hunky reality TV husband along the way.
But unfortunately, the pair separated earlier this year.
So what do we know about Rylan’s former beau, and why did the couple split?

Rylan was married to Dan Neal, a former Big Brother contestant and ex-police officer.
The couple had been married since November, but finally decided to call time on their relationship in June 2021.
As soon as the news leaked, rumours began to run rife about why the couple had split- with many news outlets claiming that Rylan and Dan fell out about having children, and had differences of opinion when it came to their TV careers.
A source told the Mail Online:
“Rylan loved being a step-dad and was wonderful but it just couldn’t fill the gap he felt for wanting his own children.”
Rylan was a step father to Dan’s 21-year-old son from a previous relationship, Cameron, but has also been upfront about wanting children of his own one day.
Chatting with Closer Magazine back in 2019, the TV presenter said:
“I have a 19-year-old stepson already – Cameron – and he’s amazing. I want to be a dad, I’d love it to happen, it’s when and how.”

But this wasn’t the only reason that things began to sour.
The Mail Online started to dig deeper with Rylan and Dan’s split, and a source stepped forward to reveal that the former Big Brother contestant wanted to pursue a career in TV just like Rylan.
The source said:
“Dan really wants a TV career. He looks at Rylan being so effortless. He’s had showreels made and would love to be a TV star.”
But whatever the reasons for their split, the couple just couldn’t resolve their issues.
Rylan thanked fans for their continued support after it was confirmed that he and his partner had gone their separate ways, and took to Instagram to make his statement.
The TV presenter said that he and Dan were both having to prioritise their mental health, and hoping to return to work in due course.

Rylan wrote:
“I just wanted to write a message to thank you for all the love and kindness you have shown us.
We are currently prioritising our mental health and looking after the ones around us we love most. I am working towards getting back to the jobs I love in due course. Thank you for being patient with me.”
Rylan is currently taking some time away from his BBC Radio 2 show while he gets back on his feet.
Relationship Timeline
Rylan Clark and Dan Neal first started dating in 2013.
Dan used to work for Operation Yewtree, investigating child abuse by celebrities including Jimmy Saville.
He soon shot to fame after appearing in Big Brother, and this is when the reality star met his future husband.
After Dan was evicted from the Big Brother house six weeks into the series, Rylan was there to interview him as soon as he left the show. The pair soon hit it off, and were spotted cosying up together on romantic dates and getaways.
Rylan then went on to propose to Dan during a holiday to Paris.
