Rebekah played Nina Farr on Casualty for over a decade, and her cancer battle was documented in April 2013 by The Mirror. She beat breast cancer, but it returned, and she underwent treatment before returning to work this summer after doctors gave her the all-clear.

Lump in Rebekah Gibbs breast
When Gibbs first noticed a lump in her breast, she was just weeks from giving birth. Rebekah was told it could be cancer and had to wait until she gave birth before doctors would do a biopsy. Rebekah underwent chemotherapy treatment in 2008 so that her baby daughter Josie wouldn’t contract the disease too.
Rebekah’s character Nina Farr was also battling breast cancer at that time after being diagnosed with stage one.
That means Rebekah will have played someone who has dealt with both sides of this condition – as well as giving birth on-screen during an episode broadcast just days after having given birth for real to her third child!
Rebekah Gibbs Journey of Cancer Days
Rebekah Gibbs –
“It took three months from the day I first visited my GP with a lump in my breast to when I was officially diagnosed with breast cancer.
During that period, I traveled the emotional rollercoaster of a cancer diagnosis and coped with all its challenges.”
The doctor said the lump could be malignant. A biopsy would tell for sure, but it couldn’t take place until after Rebekah had given birth to her daughter Josie in November 2008. The pregnancy went well, but Rebekah’s GP found a second lump on her breast, which Rebekah later discovered she’d developed just before giving birth herself!
Rebekah underwent chemotherapy treatment from April 2009 through to July 2010. So her baby son Ruben wouldn’t contract cancer too – while also caring for two children under four years old at home together with their father!
“Since giving birth to my daughter Josie back in 2008, I have had a lump on one of my breasts that could be malignant,”
she says.
“I’m now very happy to say that thanks to early detection, NHS care, and medical advances made over the past few years, I’ve beaten breast cancer!
