Is Corrie’s Adam Barlow Offscreen Romances Parallel to his On-Screen Romances?
There’s something in Adam Barlow’s – portrayed by actor Sam Robertson – bad boy personality. That has many fans rooting for him or occasionally, detesting him.
It may be because of the nefarious personality. That gave him both approval and disapproval by many fans following the show. Or perhaps it’s Sam Robertson’s model characteristics that make him perfectly suited for the role.
Does Sam Robertson’s lotharios personality on screen with fellow Coronation Street characters mirror his love life (a.k.a his offscreen) romances? Read on to find out more about the tea.
Ex- Flings?
Although he was part of the show since 2001. it wasn’t until July of 2019 when Barlow’s love life heated up with Sarah Platt. Speaking to The Daily Star‘s Pop TV magazine, Robertson shared:
“I think Sarah is going to be the closest to that, I think he would like to make it serious.”
While the two had great chemistry on screen, they didn’t date outside the show. Robertson instead had a brief ‘fling’ with fellow Corrie co-star Faye Brookes. Who played Kate Connor on the show.
What was even more shocking was the timeline of the pair’s hook-up. Their fling began when Brookes was on a two-week break from ex-partner Gareth Gates.
The romance between the two certainly didn’t last when Brookes got back together with Gates and got engaged. Only to end the engagement and break up for good in 2018.
Soon after, Roberston started dating a famous football player– Alex Scott. Unfortunately, this relationship didn’t turn out to have a good start either. Because of the pressure on their relationship from the media.
From the get-go photos of their first date have been posted everywhere online.
In the show, Adam Barlow settles down with his wife, Sarah, and their stepson in 15a. Much to the surprise of fans, the situation is quite the opposite for bachelor Sam Robertson.
On Coronation Street
Fun fact: Coronation Street is the longest-running soap opera on British TV. The show celebrated its 60th anniversary just last year. This only makes sense to have had two actor changes play the role of Adam Barlow.
In 2004, Sam Robertson replaced Iain De Caestecker. It was confirmed that Robertson would reprise the role of Adam. Bringing a deeper storyline to Barlow’s family as he became a full-time character on the show.
Barlow’s character was introduced in January 2001, played by Iain De Caestecker, as part of a storyline that involved a custody battle between long-time rivals Ken Barlow and Mike Baldwin.
Although Adam left the programme after a few episodes, De Caestecker reprised the role for a few episodes in 2002-2003.
Adam returned as a full-time character in December 2004, now played by Samuel Robertson. Robertson left the role in 2007 with his return 9 years later in 2016.
What’s in Store for Adam Barlow?
In the start of the new year, huge cliffhangers for Adam’s life left fans questioning if Barlow could survive the transplant for Peter. Prior to that, Carla’s secret fling caused a rift in Peter and Adam’s relationship.
What seemed to be a complicated story arc for Barlow’s character may have been from the speculation he could possibly be written off as Robertson had planned on leaving the show.
But the good news for Corrie fans is producers have confirmed that Adam will survive as he and Sarah will eventually reunite at the end of 2020.
