Getting The Benches Out

Sitting on the benches in the school assembly was the equivalent of sitting on the throne. We used to wait all our lives to get to year 6 so we could literally sit above our younger schoolmates and reflect with pride that we’d ‘started from Reception now we’re here’. But if you were asked to put the benches out your work was cut out – those things were seriously heavy.
