The This Morning presenter admitted his relationship with Steph – who he wed in 1993 – is a “work in progress” and the pair are “picking [their] way through”, but they haven’t discussed dissolving their marriage.
He said:
‘There is a great deal of talk of divorce – we have not discussed that at all.
‘With divorce… that has not been discussed.
‘We are picking our way through and however that works and it’s a work in progress.
‘I am a work in progress. Steph is a work in progress’.
The 58-year-old star also admitted his “greatest concern” is that Steph – with whom he shares daughters Molly, 27, and Ruby, 24 – is “OK”.
Speaking on Chris Evans’ ‘How to Wow’ podcast, he said:
‘It is not in my nature to hurt people and so I have to reconcile myself with the fact that I have done that.
‘Indeed, I have done that and I tried very hard not to.
‘I also say, is it possible to come out and not hurt your wife? No of course it isn’t.
‘My greatest concern is that she is OK’.

Phillip previously admitted he spent “hours” talking to Steph and hugging her before he came out publicly on This Morning in February, before which he was getting “sicker and sicker” by “worrying” about what he should do.
He said:
‘It went round and round and round and round, and then I couldn’t eat. And then I couldn’t sleep.
‘I was walking into make-up and people are saying, “You OK? Had a nice weekend?” And I knew I had spent the whole weekend staring into the fire.
‘I was thinking, “What am I going to do?” There were lots of hours talking to Steph and hugging Steph. We talked the whole thing through. There were no secrets, there have never been any secrets.
‘”Initially, I didn’t understand’.
