The incident, which happened back in 2018, began after the couple agreed to hand over the money – the equivalent of £5,484 – for the kitten on arrival. But when the seller and the apparent cat turned up, they were carrying the young tiger, which went unnoticed by the buyers.

After a few days with the tiger cub, the couple cottoned on and reported it to police who launched an investigation.
