Hamilton Cast: Everything You Need to Know

The Hamilton cast and the musical itself are some of the most famous and popular phenomena of the last few years.

Lin-Manuel Miranda, who wrote the music and the story of the Broadway Show after reading the 2004 Hamilton’s biography by Ron Chernow, has finally reached the pinnacle of success. But what about the Hamilton cast, with all the people who have made this show one of the most successful Broadway musicals? Let’s find it out together!

Hamilton: One Of The Most Successful Musicals?

The show is the perfect mix between hip hop and R&B music, with more traditional tunes. It tells the story of American Founding Father Alexander Hamilton. Lin-Manuel Miranda, the show’s writer and director, described the musical as about “America then, as told by America now”.

With its touching and well-written story, the musical has given a new voice to those living in the worst cities in the UK, as well as everywhere around the world.

The Broadway production premiered in 2015, at the Public Theatre. It won eight Drama Desk Awards and was immediately sold out. The musical then received 16 nominations and won 11 awards at the 2016 Tony Awards. Most importantly, Hamilton received the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

Hamilton Cast: Where Are They Now?

Since its opening, Hamilton has always received positive reviews and critical acclaim. Nevertheless, when the show was premiered and then transferred to other theatres, only a few members of the cast were familiar to theatre fans.

When the Broadway show was finally released on Disney+ on July, the original Broadway cast gained full recognition. Although they may not be as much popular as Maya Jama or other people who gained popularity through social networks, all these actors have already played at least one part in other movies or shows. This is where you can find them if you want to see their performances on television or stage.

Lin-Manuel Miranda, The Star Of The Hamilton Cast

After her huge contribution as Hamilton’s writer and composer-lyricist, Miranda will be one of the composers of the new Disney’s live Action, The Little Mermaid. He is now working on a new television series, and he is raising millions of dollars for Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria.

Of course, he will always be remembered for his exceptional leading role as the original Alexander Hamilton.

The U.S. Tour And The Recast

When a British production becomes very popular, it is always re-adapted to be broadcast for an American audience. This is what happened to the Shameless UK cast and the Hamilton cast itself.

The Chicago production of Hamilton premiered at the CIBC Theatre in September 2016. The next year, the first U.S. national tour began, followed by a second one in 2018. The American audience fell in love with the Broadway show, and a third U.S. tour began in January 2019.

The U.S. tour required a recasting. For example, Miranda was able to play the leading role of Alexander Hamilton only for the third U.S. tour, whereas other members of the Hamilton cast were replaced.

Is The Hamilton Movie Real?

Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical is finally coming to the big screen. As announced early this year, fans will be able to enjoy a film adaption of their favourite Broadway show next year. Most importantly, the movie will feature the original Hamilton cast of the stage production.

Nevertheless, it must be noted that the upcoming film version will not be an outright adaptation, but a recording of the stage show filmed across the main live performances.

The movie, distributed by Disney, should arrive in movie theatres in October 2021, just in time for the holidays.

In a recent interview, Miranda said:

“I’m so proud of what Tommy Kail has been able to capture in this filmed version of Hamilton. A live theatrical experience that feels just as immediate in your local movie theatre. We’re excited to partner with Disney to bring the original Broadway company of Hamilton to the largest audience possible.”

What Does The Hamilton Cast Think Of The New Adaptation?

Due to the cultural resonance of the original Broadway show, the new adaptation will surely attract thousands of fans. On the other hand, the filmed version will get a much larger release, allowing more people to watch it for the first time. This means that the original Hamilton cast will get even more recognition and their roles will become immortal in the heart of their fans.

Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at Comscore, said:

“If everyone who loves ‘Hamilton’ goes to see it, you could be talking hundreds of millions of dollars. But it’s too early to tell. How close is it to see the show live? I think there will be a huge amount of interest. The box office potential is massive.”
