Things We Remember From School Discos
School discos were the highlight of the school social calendar. What are you wearing? What time are you staying til? Have you got money for the tuck shop? The pressure was endless!
Oh, what we wouldn’t give to go back to those days where our biggest concern was whether to do our hair crimped or straight or gelled up or flat.
Being in school after hours with the music and dodgy disco lights felt like we were basically at a nightclub. And in fairness, many of our nights out since have seriously resembled that year six disco.
See just how many things you can remember from a school disco…
Kids Doing Skids
All well and good until you got a bit of spilt bean juice on your new jeans. Still, it was somehow massive fun at these events and there’s still that character who’ll do it at weddings.

Lynx Africa
To quote Toto: I bless the rains down in Africa. And Lynx Africa certainly rained down on our school discos. Now, we joke about it being the Christmas present that no one wanted but people still covered themselves in it!

Food On The Floor From Dinner
But why? We’d spent all week picking our outfits only to skid and land on an old bit of a crummy sandwich? Not exactly the luxe lifestyle we had imagined…

Kwenchy Cups
But you couldn’t drink them like a normal person. You obviously had to bite off the bottom corner and drink from that. Otherwise you were just considered an absolute weirdo.

Glitter Tights
Why can’t we still wear these?! These were super jazzy and were considered high fashion in our primary school days. Did anyone try and wear them with their school uniform on a normal day? Some of them, namely the pink ones, were a bit out there but the silver ones would be perfect to wear at Christmas.

The Cha Cha Slide
Sliiiide to the left. Sliiiiide to the right. CRISS CROSS.
No one could ever agree on what the right move was Charlie Brown. But the rest of it was absolutely incredible.

Impulse
Impulse, mixed with the smell of Lynx Africa made for a seriously potent night. The Spice Girls even had their own version and if it was good enough for them, it was good enough for us!

S Club 7
REACH for the staars.
This is still a complete banger on a night out now and it definitely all came from those primary school discos.

Kids Trading Cards
Normally those football Shoot Out cards. This was normally a pre-school or lunchtime activity but a disco gave the opportunity to get them cards traded. The joy you felt getting a silver or gold one. We had some serious negotiation skills.

I Am The Music Man
This is a banger that hasn’t really transferred to the clubs. It’s not exactly S Club but just hearing the name of that song has made us seriously nostalgic.

The End
This was much like our nights out now. The lights went up, we were pretty shattered. The only difference is that we had our parents waiting their with our coats. We just hoped and prayed that they didn’t do anything to embarrass us.
