Elisabeth Dermot Walsh (Zara Carmichael)
Ms Walsh is probably a familiar face for many people, having also appeared in Unfinished Business, Midsomer Murders and Holby City just to name a few. Elisabeth won a Best Female Acting Performance award at the RTS Midlands Awards 2015 for playing Zara Carmichael. Her character is a GP and she’s been on the show since 2009. Furthermore, Zara has some pretty exciting storylines, from being kidnapped to her on/off relationship with fellow GP Daniel Granger!
Jan Pearson (Karen Hollins)
Head receptionist Karen is played by Jan Pearson. She has been on the show since 2009 and won an award in 2010 for Best On-Screen Partnership at the British Soap Awards with on-screen husband Rob Hollins. Her storylines in the BBC programme have included her relationship with her husband, having an abortion and her experience with amnesia after a car accident.
Dido Miles (Emma Reid)
Dido loves staring in a good British soap and has starred in The Bill, Making Waves and EastEnders to name a few. Her character is a GP and first appeared in 2012.
This Doctors cast member has been through some very interesting storylines. Firstly, Emma deals with a marriage breakdown and her son’s criminal activities. Secondly, the character deals with malpractice accusations. Finally, a big storyline for Emma has been her experience coming out as bisexual, having an affair with a married woman and working through depression.
Sarah Moyle (Valerie Pitman)
Receptionist Valerie first joined Doctors in 2012 and became a regular from 2016. Sarah’s character’s battle with Hodgkin’s lymphoma resonated with many viewers and she is a well-liked character. That being said, the character has had some pretty dramatic storylines, including suing one of the doctors (Al Haskey) for malpractice and being falsely accused of murder!
Bharti Patel (Ruhma Carter)
Senior Sister and Consultant Midwife Ruhma joined the Doctors cast in 2015. Bharti‘s character’s storylines include her relationship with, and the subsequent death of a previous character, supporting her children during issues with the police and suspension from her job. Further to this, Ruhma also has to deal with having partial deafness.
Matthew Chambers (Daniel Granger)
Chambers has played a GP in the Doctors cast since 2007. He’s also a notorious soap star, you might recognise his face from Mile High, Holby City, Family Affairs and Doctor Who. His character has gone through gambling addiction, a stint in prison and of course an illustrious affair with Zara.
Adrian Lewis Morgan (Jimmi Clay)
Mr Morgan is the longest-serving member of the Doctors cast, having joined the team back in 2005. He is also a Holby City veteran and you may have seen him on the West End too! Another GP, this character has had plenty of unique storylines over his 15 year stint, including several relationships, two marriages, a kidnapping by two patients and time in prison after being framed. To sum up, the character’s past 15 years have been exhausting!
Chris Walker (Rob Hollins)
The town’s police sergeant and wife of Karen Hollins, Chris won the Best On-Screen Partnership Award with Jan Pearson. He has previous appeared on Corrie and The Bill. In fact, Chris has even appeared on Celebrity Masterchef! Ian Midlane (Al Haskey)
Another GP at the practice, Midlane’s character first became part of the Doctors cast in 2012. Dr. Haskey is good friends with Dr. Clay and seems to have a bit of bad luck. The character was accused of stalking colleague Jas Khella (played by Vineeta Rishi) who is no longer a regular character. However, Al was found innocent and is even kidnapped by the actual stalker!
Ashley Rice (Sid Vere)
Another GP at the Mill practice, Mr Rice’s character is also a first responder. He was introduced to the show in 2015. Dr Vere is a bit of a lady’s man, having had relationships with Zara Carmichael and former character nurse Ayesha Lee (who has only just left the series).
He even had a brief fling with Mr and Mrs Hollins’ adult daughter Imogen! Ashley’s character has also experienced a lengthy storyline involving discovering his long-lost brother.
Dex Lee (Bear Sylvester)
The newest member of the Doctors cast, Mr Lee has only been on board since 2019. Bear is business manager at the practice and discovers he is dyslexic after having to work through the night to keep up with paperwork. Dr. Carmichael and Dr. Granger help him work with dyslexia-friendly tools that mean he no longer has to work long nights.
During his short stint, the character has been involved in funnelling money to the practice via selling lubricant to sex shops and has been knocked out with a vase while babysitting.
