What might surprise you is just how closely this film resembles the real life events that inspired it…

In a ten week period, the killer known as the ‘Phantom Killer’ or ‘Phantom Slayer’ attacked 8 people, five of which did not survive.
Lovers Lane…
The murders sent the town into a mode of panic where each night locals would lock themselves in their own homes for safety.

To this day the Phantom Killer remains unnamed although police did come up with a suspect list.
Working the case…
The prime suspect was Youell Swinney and although he would not talk to the police, his wife Peggy confessed in great detail that it was he who had committed the murders. Unfortunately after being classed as an unreliable witness, Peggy was unable to testify against her husband leaving the murders officially unsolved.
