While it might seem like the plot for this story is far fetched, the crimes that inspired this movie are thought to be very real…
The cave…
During the 1500’s, Alexander “Sawney” Bean was born in East Lothian, Scotland to a hard working family.

He on the other hand did not share the same enthusiasm for the life they lived and decided to take his own path.
Sawney Bean…
After meeting a woman named Agnes Douglas who shared his feelings, the pair took themselves off to live in a cave where they lured innocents to their deaths before consuming their flesh.

It is said that together they produced eight sons, six daughters, eighteen grandsons and fourteen granddaughters. All of the family were cannibals and it is argued they are responsible for the deaths of up to 1,000 people in a 25 year period.
A gruesome tale…
Their actions did not go unnoticed and the Bean family was later uncovered by local villagers. The clan was arrested and transported to neighbouring cities where they were executed without trial.
