One minute she’s in full sports kit ready to dive into the sea and the next she’s wearing a glittering gown. Lauren Steadman’s Instagram proves that this Paralympian can literally do anything.
Who is Lauren Steadman?
Ms Steadman is a three-times World Champion athlete, professional Triathlete and triple Paralympian. Lauren was born in Peterborough in 1992 and is 27 years old.
Steadman was born with the lower half of her left arm missing and has never known life without it. She was encouraged by her uncle, also a triathlete,to try athletics and found her niche.
Ms Steadman loves to be an inspiration to aspiring sportspeople and said this about her sporting spirit:
“I like to think that I raise the standard within my category, and I want to raise it again to prove that disability sport can keep pushing the boundaries.”

Training
As you would expect, she is constantly training for competitions.
It’s fun to see what Lauren Steadman’s Instagram shows about behind the scenes of her intense training regime. It’s also very eye-opening, honest and inspiring.
No matter the weather, Ms Steadman is always up for training and genuinely loves what she does. It certainly pays off with her impressive athletics record so far…
Competitions
Back in 2009, Lauren won her first medal at the IPC European Championships. Her Paratriathlon career really kicked off in 2013 and 2014 when she won the London World Series Paratriathlon, beating the four-times World Champion:
“I’m feeling pretty happy at the moment. If you would have told me I’d beat a four times world champion today I wouldn’t have believed it.”
Also in 2014, she became the World Champion Paratriathlete in Edmonton, Canada and gained her degree in Psychology as well!
She went on to compete in the Paralympic Games in Rio 2016. She won a Silver medal in the first ever Paratriathalon as an Olympic sport.
Oh, and in-between all of these wins, she achieved her Masters in Business and Management as well!
She has been training for the now-postponed Paralympics in Tokyo 2020. Lauren Steadman’s Instagram has confirmed that she will still be competing in 2021, so we’ve certainly not seen the last of this incredible athlete’s competitions yet!

Strictly Come Dancing
In 2018, Lauren Steadman’s Instagram confirmed that the athlete would be competing in the 16th series of BBC show Strictly Come Dancing.
Ms Steadman was partnered with professional dancer AJ Prichard, aged 25.
A ‘Little’ Detour
Of course, Lauren can’t only do one thing at a time. Ms Steadman became a World Champion in Australia in 2018, before jetting back to the UK to continue training!
Back to Dancing
The pair bonded over their competitiveness and made it all the way to the semi-finals. Lauren and AJ just missed out on a place in the final to Pussycat Dolls singer Ashley Roberts.
An Emotional Roller-coaster
While competing on the show, the incredible athlete performed a moving Contemporary dance number. Consequently, the dance brought tears to much of the country. Lauren Steadman’s Instagram captioned the moment after the dance perfectly.
Ms Steadman may not have won, however her appearance and work with AJ produced some truly stunning dances. These prove just how fierce the young athlete is.
Celebrity SAS
Lauren Steadman’s Instagram announced in April 2020 that she would be competing in Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins.
She seems to have taken the competition in her stride and tackled it with as much strength as possible. However, there have been some tensions with other contestants, especially Joey Essex:
“There was one moment I cried. I felt that Joey hadn’t pulled his half of what we were trying to do in the task. I got a bruised bone and it got to the point that I was just, like, I feel like I’m doing this myself. That made me break down – it was pure frustration.”
No matter the stress or task, Ms Steadman can’t seem to help enjoying herself and relishing a challenge!
