Stormzy Brit Awards: Storming The Stage
Stormzy Brit Awards nominations included male artist of the year, Mastercard’s British album of the year as well as ‘Vossi Bop’ being up for song of the year…
Although his album ‘Heavy Is The Head’ didn’t swipe the award for best album, nor did Vossi Bop pick up best song, he managed to bag the best of the bunch- best male artist; arguably the most prestigious award to walk away with.

The black British grime artist was actually spotted BTS of the awards, clutching the alcoholic drink, Courvoisier, that’s behind his legendary ‘Vossi Bop’ track. He was seen stepping in on an interview with fellow award winner, Billie Eilish during an interview backstage. All for good reason, though, fanboying over the young songstress.
Stormzy Brit Awards: Heartfelt Speech
Upon receiving his award for best male, Stormzy took to the stage to deliver a touching speech to thank those around him for helping him get to where he is, after a difficult childhood, particularly the females:
“To be the best male, I have got the most incredible females in my team. You lot are the greatest, the best male is nothing without the best females. I love you guys. To every single person who supported me, I love you. Thank you guys.”
Following his win, Stormzy performed a medley of some of his top tracks- Don’t Forget to Breathe, Do Better, Wiley Flow, Own It and Rainfall, accompanied by an on-stage choir and a squad of dancers.

Burna Boy, who was up for Best International Male Artist, joined the 6″5 star on stage for his song Anybody, while Tiana Major9 joined for Rainfall.
Fittingly, rain fell on the stage during their rendition of the track, giving a powerful end to Stormzy’s set.
As British culture is these days, he sent shockwaves across social media, with praise flooding in for the artist. One user called it “nothing we’ve seen before”, with another commenting on the rapper’s state of mind:
“You can see in this man’s eyes and body language how happy he is. the purest of smiles. well done stormzy.”
Ex- Maya
It wasn’t all plain- sailing for Stormzy Brit Awards, given the presence of his ex- girlfriend, Maya Jama. The pair had been together for four years, before things broke down in August 2019.
The pair had secretly dated for a year before going public with their relationship in 2016. The rapper had dedicated his song ‘Birthday Girl’ to girlfriend Maya, on her 22nd birthday. I could think of worse birthday presents…

Since parting ways in August, the pair have crossed paths at numerous events, but keeping interaction to a minimum.
At the Brits this year, Maya was pictured in her ‘revenge’ floor-length gown on the carpet. The sweetheart neckline and matching long, velvet gloves were enough to turn anyone’s head, never mind that of her ex.
Stormzy received some public backlash after being pictured with another woman shortly after his split from Jama. It is thought that Jama was the one to initiate the split, wanting to pursue her TV and radio career further.
The pair both wound up at the after-show party, with Stormzy of course wanting to celebrate his big win, and Maya showing face as she does to most of these celeb events.

It’s unknown if the pair interacted at the bash, but Jama was papped leaving the venue not too long after her winning ex rocked up. Awkward to say the Grime artist still insists that Maya is the girl he wants to marry:
“I would love for that to happen, but I don’t know…I would love to be the man who she…I would love to do all the things that make it work,’ he said. ‘I want to marry her, I want to have her children. All of that.”
Who knows what will be the outcome for these former love birds, but we do know they were one of the most adored and talked about couples while together. We all LOVED them- so, fingers crossed they can work things out…

Reaching New Highs
In the same week that saw him bag another Brit award, Stormzy also reached another peak (arguably, an even better one)- in the form of a Greggs’ black card.
He became the first to ever receive a Greggs black card, entitling him to unlimited sausage rolls and steak bakes for life. If that’s not what dreams are made of?
On one of the last stories he posted before swiping his social media, he showed off the black card with the words of passion:
“The game has changed forever. Are you mad… I have peaked this is brilliant.”
Along with the black card also came a pair of size 12 Greggs slippers (something you didn’t know you needed until now).
Deleting Social Media
Soon after Stormzy deactivated his Twitter and Instagram accounts, both of which he has been consistently active on for years. One fan hypothesised why:
“Did @stormzy delete his account because receiving a @GreggsOfficial black card, his life is now complete. He’s sat at home now surrounded by awards and chicken bakes!! #Stormzy.”
Probably.
