The Great British Bake Off judge – who turned 80 on Tuesday (18.02.20) – was “really keen” on the idea of learning to ice skate for the show but both her secretary and her spouse John Playfair were afraid she’d get injured.

She said:

‘Years ago I was asked if I would do Dancing On Ice and I thought, “This will be fun. I can learn to skate and get tremendously fit.”

‘I was really keen, but when I told my secretary, she said, “Oh no, you’re not doing that. You’ll fall and you’ll break something and you’re too old.”

‘Then my husband joined in and that was the end of that’.

After her skating ambitions were dashed, Prue admitted it’s unlikely fans will ever see her on a reality show.

Asked about the possibility, she told new! magazine:

‘Never say never, but I don’t think so.

‘I’m far too old to do ‘I’m A Celebrity…’ because you have to be able to sit on the ground and stand up without being pulled up. I couldn’t possibly do that!’

Prue rarely ever watches herself on ‘Bake Off’ because she’s too “vain” and gets upset at the camera angles used by producers, so finds scrutinising herself too distracting.

She admitted:

‘I hardly ever watch it. I’m so vain that I just keep thinking, “Why are they filming me from the side where I look so huge?”

‘I don’t like my voice either. I forget sometimes that I’m supposed to be worrying about the cakes and who’s going to win’.
