It was Philip Schofield who inspired Fletcher to pursue children’s television as he regularly watched him on the programme The Broom Cupboard with Gordon the Gopher.

He later met Philip Schofield who suggested that he make a show reel and send it out to different TV executives.

Appearing on This Morning, he once said:

“You are responsible for my career, that’s very true. At my third year in drama school I met Phillip and he very kindly gave me some advice and he said go out there and make a show reel and get it out there… and I did and I got my first job about three weeks later. You were my inspiration!”

On his showreel, named Justin Time, he showcased two characters; Anna Conda (a reptile house warden) and Arthur Sleep, a newsreader who constantly falls asleep anywhere.

Both characters were actually used for his his show Gigglebiz which was broadcast on CBeebies.

Would He Ever Venture Into Adult Comedy?

Fletcher once admitted to considering a change in direction and perhaps venturing into adult comedy. Although, he also confirmed that he would never leave children’s television completely as that remains his primary passion.

He said:

“I’ve spoken to some lovely people who I’ve got to know over the years, like Peter Kay, and who knows, if something came up that’s right for me, of course I’d look at it because it would be a real challenge for me and take me out of my comfort zone.”
