My Best Friend’s Wedding Cast: The Cast Then Compared To Now

22 years ago the movie where the girl doesn’t get the guy (a romantic comedy issue, no?) hit our screens – how have the My Best Friend’s Wedding cast aged?

Also THAT ending was a PURPOSEFUL choice by director PJ Hogan; in test screenings the general public were unhappy that Julianne got her man after all of the chaos she had created.

The real question is, do we love him or hate him for being realistic?

What do the My Best Friend’s Wedding Cast look like now?

Julianne Potter (Julia Roberts) – THEN

Julianne and Michael are best friends who decide that if neither of them were married by 28, they would get together. However, at 28 Michael meets ‘the one’ – something Jules is NOT happy about. Rather than being supportive for her BFF, she decides to stop the big day before it even happens.

Julia Roberts (Julianne Potter) – NOW

Julia was THE it girl for all things romantic comedy in the 90’s and early 00’s. However, more recently, Julia has starred in her FIRST EVER TV show, Homecoming. She stars in the series with My Best Friend’s Wedding co-star, Dermot!

Michael means well and doesn’t realise the extent to which he has upset Jules. As much as we love the leading lady, how good are Michael and Kimmy together?

Dermot Mulroney (Michael O’Neal) – NOW

Unlike Julia, Dermot hasn’t been typecast to a specific movie role – an observation not just made by us! People magazine named Dermot their ‘Sexiest Jack of Arts’ in 2005.

Dermot has starred in many TV shows, including American Horror Story: Cult, SoundBreaking and Crisis.

Kimmy Wallace (Cameron Diaz) – THEN

Kimmy might be young, have legs for days and also from a VERY wealthy family but she still tries to welcome Julianne with open arms. She soon came to regret that! Not as much as THAT karaoke scene though…

Cameron Diaz (Kimmy Wallace) –  NOW

The cast of the movie recently reunited for the Entertainment Weekly Cast Reunions. In one of the interviews, Cameron Diaz and Rupert Everett explained that Cameron was actually terrified to do that scene for real! She has a true terror of singing in front of people – if we were getting paid thousands for it, we think we’d do it too!

He is Julianne’s editor and friend who pretends to be her fiancé in an attempt to make Michael jealous. When Michael still goes ahead and marries Kimmy, George is there waiting for a heartbroken Jules at the wedding. Don’t we all need a George in our lives!

Samantha is one of Kimmy’s bridesmaids as well as being the twin sister of Mandy.

She might have played a ditzy, rich kid in My Best Friend’s Wedding but that hasn’t stopped Rachel from exploring other roles. For example, she has starred in Hilary and Jackie, Hacksaw Ridge and Saving Mr Banks.
