Marcel (Katie The Monkey) – Then
Marcel was Ross’s pet in season 1 – he was a white-headed Capuchin monkey with a love for the song ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’.
Marcel and Ross were inseparable during his time on the show but also managed to cause a lot of mayhem for the gang. At one point, he runs off (after Rachel is supposed to be keeping an eye on him) and she reports him missing. He was eventually found.
Sadly, as Marcel got older it soon became clear to the gang that he was not suited to the ‘pet’ lifestyle and needed to be taken in by a zoo. Fortunately, Marcel got accepted into San Diego zoo and Ross had to bit him an emotional goodbye.
Katie the Monkey who played Marcel is actually female and has had quite an extensive career. She is one of a few very famous monkeys in the acting industry and even became the Los Angeles Angels’ mascot ‘Rally Monkey’.
