Mrs Beauregarde (Missi Pyle) – Then
Mrs Beauregarde is not a major character in the novel nor in the original 1971 film version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. However, in Tim Burton’s re-imagining, Mrs Beauregarde becomes a minor antagonist and we can clearly see that Violet is simply a mini-me of her mother!
Violet’s competitive streak is clearly hereditary as the pair boast about Violet’s medals and awards. While most mothers would disapprove of an excessive gum chewing habit, Mrs Beauregarde encourages it.
Actress Missi Pyle has since acted in the Broadway production Boeing-Boeing and became part of a country music group alongside actress Shawnee Smith after meeting her on the set of an ABC comedy pilot. Their first album was called ‘It’s OK to Be Happy’ and was released through iTunes in 2008.
Fun fact – she even has a drag queen named after her (‘Pissi Myles’).
