Barbara was definitely very private when it came to her private life but we do know that she married twice. Her first marriage was in 1944 at age 22 to theatre director Carl Schreuer.
Barbara and Carl:

They had a daughter, Susan, and lasted 7 years before divorce in 1951. Later that year, she went on to marry stage director Windsor Lewis who she had another daughter with, Betsy. Barbara suspended her career when Lewis became ill in 1967 to care for him. He sadly died in 1972.
