Playing for clubs in Russia, France and England this midfielder was a pretty versatile player. Captain of the Russian national team, he earned an impressive 55 caps over his career.

He hung up his football boots in 2008 in favour of a slight career change to politics. He was elected as an MP in the Altai region of Russia and in 2017, he was named Russian Football Union anti-racism and discrimination inspector, just before the World Cup.
