Kerry Katona is hoping Kym Marsh’s ‘Coronation Street’ departure will leave an opening for her to join the ITV soap.
The 38-year-old singer is “sad” that Kym Marsh is departing the cobbles after 13 years of playing Michelle Connor, but thinks the former singer’s soap departure will open up an opportunity for her to finally land her dream role behind the bar of the Rovers Return.
In her new! magazine column, she wrote:
“I was sad to see Kym Marsh is leaving ‘Coronation Street’ but if that frees up a space in the cast, then ITV, you know who to call!
“I reckon I’d be brilliant behind the bar at the Rovers. Can’t you just see me as the new Bet Lynch?
“I love acting and without a doubt ‘Corrie’ is my favourite soap. I’m always up for an audition.”
Kym recently admitted the idea of quitting the show is “scary” but she’s feeling “really excited” about the new opportunities that could come her way.
She said:
“Other actresses from the show have gone on to do other incredible acting work, so who knows.
“It’s scary but I’m also really excited about what the future holds.”
The former Hear’Say singer admitted it was an “incredibly difficult” decision to quit the cobbles, but she is looking forward to exploring other acting roles.
She recently said:
“When I was lucky enough to be offered four episodes I could never in my wildest dreams have thought I’d be here 13 years later.
“It’s been an incredibly difficult decision but it feels like the right time for me to explore some other roles.”
