There are a few really important reasons why there is a little hole there! The first reason is that it allows water to drain out of the lock if you’re using it outside, this prevents it rusting whilst its raining or freeze and break in the winter!

Another reason for the h0le is that it can be used to oil the lock to keep it working well and prevent it from becoming stiff!
