5. Frazer Hines (Joe Sugden in Emmerdale) – THEN
Do you remember Emmerdale‘s Joe Sugden who was played by ex-Doctor Who companion Frazer Hines? In case your memory is a little rusty, the character made his debut appearance as a farmer in the soap’s 1972 pilot episode and remained in the programme until 1983!
Just when we thought the character was gearing up for a big comeback in 1995, the writers decided to kill him off the following year.
In real life, Frazer Hines has had a well-established career in television and since Emmerdale, the actor has appeared in a variety of TV shows.
Now that he’s 74-year-old, the star has a more relaxed approach to acting and his last appearance was in the 2014 stage musical Annie where he took on the role of Daddy Warbucks.
