Birmingham is another area of the country that has a surprisingly high level of benefit use.

In 2016 Hodge Hill’s benefits totals were amongst the highest in the country, standing at a whopping total of £123.3 million!
It’s a shockingly high figure.
One of the suggested reasons behind this shocking figure is Birmingham’s low wages. While other parts of the country seem to pay their workers relatively well, it seems that the same cannot be said for Birmingham.
With lower wages brings the need for further assistance from the government, and the increased use of the benefits system to help get by.

If we saw an increase in wages then we would certainly see a drop in employment benefit figures.
