Westboro Baptist Church – THEN
Yep, I’m actually going to mention the church itself – because it’s gotten a pretty radical paint job close by to it recently, and it’s worth a mention. The building itself is imposing, usually adorned with various words of protest, insult and slander – “God hates you all” etc etc – and the whole look of it gives me the creeps, to be honest.
But a group called ‘Planting Peace’ – lovely name – decided to paint the buildings across the street in lovely shades of rainbow: bright splashes of equality with just a dash of love and acceptance. Members of the church itself are undeterred, of course – potentially colour-blind – but generally the neighbourhood feel is that the Westboro Baptist Church is fighting a losing battle. Amen to that.
